  This journal is concerned with several areas of physical and computer research. From the beginning it has always covered the design and development of instrumentation and systems for automatic measurement, but its coverage quickly broadened to include automatization based on laser and optoelectronic technologies, laser and non-linear optics, new information technologies and problem-oriented computer systems. Today, this Russian Academy of Sciences journal publishes articles on the latest results of basic and applied research under the following subject headings:

  • Laser physics applications

Some issues are thematic, dealing with such topics as photosensitive media, image and signal processing, image synthesis, optical information technologies and systems, and computer networks.

   
  In recent years, Russia has become a leader in many fields of optical data processing, arousing worldwide interest in Russian efforts in this area. Research of Russian scientists in optical engineering, system design and related topics has invariably met with keen interest among Western scientists. They view Optoelectronics, Instrumentation and Data Processing, with its reports on new developments, as a key source of information.
